Donation of $2,000 allocated to re-siding Long Barn at Broadturn Farm
Piper Shores announced today that it has made a gift in the amount of $2,000 to the Scarborough Land Trust, to assist in the re-siding of the east wall of the Long Barn at Broadturn Farm in Scarborough. Broadturn Farm is a 434-acre property owned by the Scarborough Land Trust and leased on a long-term basis to local farmers who use part of the property for agricultural and educational purposes, as well as a flower and wedding business.
“The Scarborough Land Trust and Broadturn Farm are incredible assets to our community,” said Peggy Farrington, Interim Executive Director at Piper Shores. “Not only does the land trust preserve precious farmland, but the farm also provides access to local organic produce and beautiful flowers for our entire community.”
The donation from the Scarborough lifecare retirement community will be used to aid in the residing of the Long Barn at Broadturn Farm. Built in the 1890’s it is the largest and oldest of three barns on the property. This project is part of a plan for needed renovations to the Long Barn, which will include a new roof and additional siding, funding permitting.
“We greatly appreciate the support of Piper Shores for the latest renovation project at our Broadturn Farm property,” said Kathy Mills, Executive Director of the Scarborough Land Trust. “Their generous contribution demonstrates their support for local land conservation and local farms, which have a direct impact on the quality of place and quality of life in the Scarborough community.”
