Piper Shores, located in Scarborough, is the only non-profit lifecare retirement community in Maine. Through local ownership and professional management services, Piper Shores offers residents the true comforts of home along with a profound sense of wellbeing, security and friendship. Located on over 181 acres with breathtaking views of Casco Bay, Piper Shores residents enjoy active, independent lifestyles with priority access to on-site assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care, whenever they may need it.
Completed in August 2001, the architectural style of Piper Shores – Oceanside closely resembles that of the grand summer hotels that once graced our area. The exterior style of the main buildings, including 160 apartments and 40 independent living cottages, are influenced by John Calvin Stevens, Maine’s most influential architect.
The main building at Piper Shores houses an elegant dining room, cozy café, and well-stocked library. The great room offers a comfortable place to talk with friends and enjoy incredible ocean views, while the Founder’s Room provides a large meeting space for lectures, presentations and entertainment. In 2012, we added a state-of-the-art fitness center, a 55,000-gallon swimming pool, a 6-person hot tub, a hair & nail salon, and a spa with private massage room.
Across the street and only an 11-minute walk from Oceanside, Piper Shores-The Meadows offers exceptional new housing on a stunning 45-acre property that is a combination of meadow and trees. This new property is currently in the process of being developed with anticipated completion in 2020.
Once completed, the campus will offer 8 freestanding estate-style homes, 16 duplex cottage homes, and 28 apartment homes. The area will also house on-site dining options, fitness facilities, pub, and movie theatre.
Piper Shores was founded and is owned by Maine Life Care Retirement Community, Inc., a Maine nonprofit organization, formed by a group of accomplished local individuals to deliver the shared vision of creating an ideal retirement community on the coast of Maine. Piper Shores is self-managed with a Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team providing day-to-day management of operations.
Piper Shores employs more than 220 dedicated and talented individuals in fields such as nursing, gerontology, culinary arts and hospitality management.
An important part of life at Piper Shores is staying connected. To this end, the Piper Shores resident community is actively involved not only with their friends across the hall but also their neighbors across town. The idea of building community and giving back is a deeply held value at Piper Shores. Community events such as the annual Piper Shores Resident Art Show, the American Red Cross blood drive, and the Volunteer Fair are well-attended events attracting residents from Scarborough and many neighboring towns.
